Let's call it Physical Distancing instead
We've all heard the term, social distancing, over the last few months. It's everywhere from Whatsapp to Snapchat filters to the newspapers and all for good reason. However, I think the term needs to be changed to actually stand for what it truly means. Social distancing refers to "deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness" ("Coronavirus – What Social Distancing Means") according to Red Cross.
If you look closely at the definition, you'll see it's physical distancing actually. It's increasing the physical distance between people and government regulations to do so. So, it is not actually "social", is it?
The point I'm trying to make here is that let's not confuse social distancing with social isolation because as humans, we need social interactions in our lives. We love having meaningful relationships whether it's friends, family, or romantic and it's crucial to continue staying in touch especially during such uncertain times!
